Canada's latest budget significantly reduces the planned issuance of temporary work visas and student visas. Economists at the Royal Bank of Canada suggest that this may be related to changes in the US H-1B visa policy. According to the plan, Canada will reduce the number of temporary immigrants entering the country to 385,000 by 2026, a decrease of about 40% from current levels. At the same time, the Canadian government has allocated $1.7 billion CAD in the budget to attract international talent and announced a fast-track pathway for individuals holding US H-1B visas to move to Canada more easily in the coming months. Previously, the Trump administration's imposition of processing fees as high as $100,000 on H-1B visa applications sparked strong disapproval from the US business community, who believed that this move would weaken their ability to attract top global talent.
