Recently, the reporter learned from the Gansu Provincial Department of Natural Resources that Pingliang City, Kongdong District, Gansu Province has successfully discovered a large-scale magnesite dolomite deposit with a total resource amount of 700 million tons, marking a major breakthrough in mineral exploration in the region. The deposit is located in the area of Zhuantai in Kongdong District. The exploration results show that the ore body is contained in the shallow marine carbonate rock strata of the middle Proterozoic Jixian Formation, and is a high-quality magnesite dolomite deposit. At the same time, the deposit has the advantages of being large in scale, shallow in burial, gentle in dip angle, and stable in thickness, making it suitable for open-pit mining. It is estimated that within the open-pit mining boundary, the cumulative amount of magnesite dolomite ore suitable for metallurgical use exceeds 700 million tons, and there are over 300 million tons of building-use dolomite that can be comprehensively utilized. In addition to being an important raw material for refining metal magnesium, this dolomite ore can also be used in industries such as refractories, metallurgical fluxes, glass, and ceramics, with great potential for comprehensive resource utilization.
