The latest budget outline released by Canada significantly reduces the planned issuance of temporary work visas and student visas. Economists at the Royal Bank of Canada suggest that this move may be related to changes in the U.S. H-1B visa policy. According to the plan, Canada will reduce the number of temporary immigrants entering the country to 385,000 by 2026, a decrease of about 40% from the current levels. At the same time, the Canadian government has allocated $1.7 billion CAD in the budget to attract international talent and announced a fast track pathway for individuals holding U.S. H-1B visas to move to Canada more easily in the coming months. Previously, the Trump administration's decision to charge processing fees as high as $100,000 for H-1B visa applications has sparked strong discontent in the U.S. business community, with concerns that it would weaken companies' ability to attract top talent globally.
