The proportion of elderly people aged 60 and above in Chongqing is over 25%, and the average life expectancy is close to 80 years old.

It was learned from the news conference on the development of Chongqing's elderly care industry in 2025 and the protection of the rights and interests of the elderly held by the Chongqing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau that by the end of 2024, the city's permanent population was 31.9047 million, with 8.0113 million elderly people aged 60 and above, an increase of 351,900 from 2023, accounting for 25.11% of the permanent population, which is 3.11 percentage points higher than the national average.
