China Imported 360,000 Cars from January to September 2025 according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
According to the data from the China Passenger Car Association, 360,000 imported cars were imported into China from January to September 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 32%. This decline is attributed to the rise of domestic new energy vehicles and their move towards the high-end market, leading to a continued downward trend in imported cars. In September, 41,000 imported cars were imported, a 26% year-on-year decrease and a 10% decrease from the previous month. Since reaching a peak of 1.43 million imported cars in 2014, the import volume has declined, with only 700,000 cars imported in 2024, a 12% year-on-year decrease. As of September 2025, the 360,000 imported cars show a significant year-on-year decrease, indicating continued pressure on the shrinking import market.
