The proposal for the redistricting of Democratic California districts has been approved.
According to the Associated Press, a referendum in California that allows the state to redraw congressional districts, beneficial to the Democratic Party, has been approved. This increases efforts to counter the Republican Party's redistricting before the midterm elections. The Proposition 50, initiated by Governor Gavin Newsom, aims to counter the impact of the Republican measures in Texas by temporarily halting the functions of the independent redistricting commission in California and allowing the Democratic-controlled state legislature to redraw congressional districts. The approval of Proposition 50 is also helpful for Newsom, as this victory will not only increase the chances for the Democratic Party in the midterm elections, but also enhance his competitiveness in the Democratic primaries in 2028.
