Northwest's first 8-inch silicon light test line is connected to help Shaanxi leverage the trillion-dollar photonics industry.
On November 4th, at the 2025 Hard Technology Innovation Conference Photon Industry Summit held in Xi'an, the "8-inch Advanced Silicon Photonics Integration Technology Innovation Platform" constructed by Shaanxi Optoelectronic Pioneering Institute was officially announced. As the first silicon photonics pilot line in the northwest region, this pilot line fills the gap in the northwest region in the field of silicon photonics chips, becoming a key support point for Shaanxi's photonics industry to move from blueprint to practice. On the same day, Shaanxi publicly released the construction plan for a photonics technology laboratory with an investment of over 1 billion yuan for the first time. Fu Yuxi, deputy director of the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated at the event that the photonics laboratory aims to introduce top international scientists within two years, gather more than 100 researchers, overcome over 30 key core technologies in the field of photonics, and boost the output value of the photonics industry in Shaanxi Province to exceed 50 billion yuan in 2027.
