After ravaging the Caribbean region for several days, Hurricane "Melissa" left the area on October 31st. This hurricane caused at least 50 deaths in Haiti and Jamaica, with multiple countries suffering losses and facing a long road to rebuilding. "Melissa" was one of the most powerful hurricanes to impact the Caribbean region in recent years, hitting Jamaica and Cuba on October 28th and then impacting the Bahamas on the afternoon of the 29th. Although "Melissa" did not make landfall in Haiti, it still brought heavy rainfall and flooding to many areas of the country. The hurricane finally left the Caribbean region on October 31st.
