The Hong Kong SAR government announced today the implementation arrangements for the "Guangdong vehicles heading south" scheme. Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam sincerely thanked the central government and the Guangdong provincial government for their strong support in promoting and implementing the scheme. This arrangement will run parallel with the "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" scheme, injecting greater momentum into the integrated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Carrie Lam stated that "Guangdong vehicles heading south" and "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" complement each other and are important measures for promoting the integrated development of the Greater Bay Area. This will not only facilitate residents from Guangdong and Hong Kong to travel in both directions and achieve a higher level of flow of people and goods, but also open up a new mode for mainland residents to visit Hong Kong, bringing opportunities to the tourism, retail, and catering industries in Hong Kong. The SAR government is steadily implementing the "Guangdong vehicles heading south" scheme in accordance with the strategy of ensuring safety, effective diversion, complete supporting facilities, and simple application procedures, benefitting Hong Kong residents and the overall society, and sharing the fruitful results of the integrated development of the Greater Bay Area.
