Single wafer costs about $45,000, TSMC plans to invest NT$1.5 trillion to build four A14 semiconductor factories.
The Taiwan Business Times published a blog post yesterday, reporting that TSMC plans to invest around 1.5 trillion New Taiwan dollars to build four 1.4 nanometer semiconductor fabs. The project is expected to create nearly 10,000 job opportunities, with risk trial production scheduled to start at the end of 2027 and large-scale production to begin in the second half of 2028. TSMC has officially disclosed its mass production plan for the 1.4 nanometer chips by submitting a land leasing brief to the Central Science Park. Despite the substantial initial investment, the project's returns are equally astonishing. The report estimates that the annual revenue from just one 1.4 nanometer fab at full capacity will exceed 500 billion New Taiwan dollars. This means that when all four fabs are operational, TSMC could generate over $65 billion in total revenue annually. However, the high research and manufacturing costs also directly raise the product prices, with the estimated price for each 1.4 nanometer wafer potentially reaching a staggering $45,000.
