Trump: Had a "very pleasant conversation" with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau.
On the 30th, President Trump of the United States stated that despite the recent escalation of trade tensions between the United States and Canada, he had a "very pleasant conversation" with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau on the 29th. Bloomberg reported that these comments were made on his plane, Air Force One, after leaving South Korea. The conversation between the two took place at a dinner hosted by South Korean President Moon Jae-in on the 29th. According to reports from the Globe and Mail, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Canadian Global News Network on the 30th, this was the first public interaction between the leaders of the two countries since Trump terminated trade negotiations with Canada. The two leaders smiled at each other and exchanged "gun" gestures at the dinner, but it seemed that there was no other communication. Trudeau's office mentioned the meeting in a statement later on the 29th, stating, "The Prime Minister had constructive conversations with all attendees on a variety of interesting topics, including the President of the United States." Prior to the dinner, Trump had posted on social media, stating, "I did not come to South Korea to see Canada."
