On March 8th, TechInsights published an article pointing out that, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 7% year-on-year and 3% month-on-month. This region saw growth after nine consecutive quarters of decline. The holiday activities in the fourth quarter, along with market improvements and stock market rebounds, drove the recovery of the smartphone market. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Apple (AAPL.US) led the market with an 18% market share, followed by vivo (14%) in second place. OPPO (OnePlus), which ranked first in the third quarter of 2023, fell to fourth place, while Samsung maintained its fifth place from the previous quarter. Due to seasonal factors, Apple's ranking jumped from fourth place in the third quarter of last year to first place. However, Apple's shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023 decreased by 2% year-on-year, mainly due to a 15% year-on-year decline in shipments in China, where Huawei's growth rebounded; while Apple's year-on-year growth in India and other regions in Asia were 42% and 7%, respectively. In terms of growth rate, Motorola, Huawei, and Transsion performed exceptionally well, with year-on-year growth of 183%, 91%, and 56%, respectively. The growth of Motorola and Transsion Group extended across the entire region, while Huawei's growth was limited to China. Smartphone shipments in India increased by 28% year-on-year, while those in China remained flat.
