According to the latest statistics from Counterpoint, in the first 6 weeks before 2024, the overall sales of smartphones in China decreased by 7% year-on-year, with major manufacturers such as Apple, OPPO, and Vivo experiencing a double-digit decline. Specifically, due to fierce market competition and unusually high sales in January last year, Apple (AAPL.US) saw a 24% year-on-year decrease in sales in China, causing Apple's market share in China's smartphone market to fall to fourth place, behind Vivo, Huawei, and Honor. On the other hand, during the period, benefiting from the continued market demand for the Mate 60 series since the middle of last year, Huawei's sales increased by 64% year-on-year, making it one of the few mobile phone manufacturers to record sales growth. For various reasons, Apple's iPhone did not perform well in the first few weeks of this year. Counterpoint's senior analyst Zhang Mengmeng said that firstly, Apple faces fierce competition from the recovering Huawei in the high-end market, while also being squeezed in the middle by aggressive pricing from companies like OPPO and Vivo. He added that although the iPhone 15 is a great device, it does not have significant upgrades compared to previous versions, so consumers are temporarily content with the older generation of iPhones.
