On Thursday, memory chip concept stocks fell broadly in premarket trading. SanDisk (SNDK.US) and SK Hynix (SKHY.US) dropped over 6%, while Western Digital Corporation (WDC.US), Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US), and Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (STX.US) fell over 5%. NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) declined over 1%.
Market analysts said that while Democrats winning control of Congress removes some political uncertainty, it has also prompted investors to reassess the approval pace and policy restrictions for data center-related construction, with the semiconductor and server supply chains bearing the brunt.
Lee Jaewon, a researcher at Yuanta Securities, said that restricted approvals in key data center construction regions such as Texas, combined with rising grid connection costs, may delay AI capital expenditure, thereby suppressing memory chip demand and pushing down product prices.
Heo Jae-hwan, an analyst at Eugene Investment & Securities, said that project approvals in Texas will become a core window for observation going forward. Before regulatory details are finalized, any policy fluctuation will exacerbate sector volatility.
