On the news front, according to Cailian Press, sources said IDG Capital has become the leading bidder for the acquisition of ASMPT's SMT business. Public information shows that in January this year, ASMPT announced plans to divest its SMT business. Citi believes that divesting the SMT business will allow the company to focus on semiconductor equipment and advanced packaging businesses, helping to unlock share value.
It is worth noting that Chinese packaging and testing giant JCET Group Co., Ltd. has recently received board approval to increase its 2026 capital expenditure budget by 65% to RMB18.2 billion. Citi believes this move will trigger a chain reaction, prompting more Chinese packaging and testing manufacturers to follow suit and increase capital investment. As ASMPT's largest single market, the Chinese market contributed 42% of the company's total revenue in the first half of 2026.
