The two-day APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting has concluded. On October 21, Hong Kong's Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Christopher Hui, held bilateral meetings with representatives from Australia, Peru, and Brunei to actively expand Hong Kong's international tax agreement network and financial cooperation opportunities. During his meetings with representatives from Australia and Peru, Hui expressed Hong Kong's vision of actively promoting the signing of Comprehensive Double Taxation Agreements (CDTAs), noting that such agreements help enhance tax certainty for cross-border investment, avoid double taxation, and create more favorable conditions for bilateral economic and trade exchanges. He also introduced Hong Kong's latest financial developments and policy measures to both sides. In his meeting with Brunei's Second Minister of Finance, the two sides held in-depth discussions on gold market cooperation, exploring how to make good use of Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international financial center and its well-developed financial infrastructure to promote cooperation between the two places in the gold and commodities markets and jointly open up new industry opportunities. In addition, Hong Kong's Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Chan Sze-wai, and Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Treasury), Lai Yat-ching, also held bilateral talks with representatives from Chile to exchange views on promoting the signing of a CDTA. The Hong Kong Treasury said the government will continue to play Hong Kong's role as a "super connector" and "super value-adder," and through improved tax arrangements and deeper international financial collaboration, open up broader development space for Hong Kong enterprises and international investors.
