Hong Kong Housing Bureau: All 13 Light Public Housing projects to be completed by first quarter of next year, providing about 30,000 units.
All 13 Light Public Housing projects will be completed within just over four years, and applications are being accepted for all about 30,000 Light Public Housing units.
The Hong Kong Housing Bureau said that the last two Light Public Housing projects, namely the new projects converted from school premises at Shun Lee Tsuen Road in Kwun Tong and Chuk Yuen Road in Wong Tai Sin, will provide about 210 units in total and are expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. With this, all 13 Light Public Housing projects will be completed within more than four years, faster than the five-year target set in the Policy Address.
After the completion of the two projects, applications will be accepted for all about 30,000 Light Public Housing units. As of September, the bureau had received more than 44,900 applications. As residents move into traditional public rental housing units, Light Public Housing units are vacated for those in need, creating turnover in Light Public Housing units.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong Housing Bureau said that Light Public Housing has low rents, comprehensive supporting services and a better living environment, and continues to provide ample housing choices for families with urgent housing needs, including residents of subdivided units. The spokesman also said that the 13 projects are spread across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with different scales and their own advantages and characteristics. All are open for applications, and it is believed that they can meet the needs of different applicants.
