Peptide interim access policy sent to the White House for review; compounding pharmacies proposed to be allowed to produce BPC-157 and others; HIMS closed up 6% on Thursday.
Notice that Hims & Hers Health (HIMS.US) closed up 6% on Thursday, following reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has submitted a temporary access policy regarding the production of peptide products by compounding pharmacies to the White House for review. The document was delivered to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), a division of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), on Tuesday. Two government officials told the media that the proposal is intended to allow compounding pharmacies to begin producing some of the most popular peptide products, such as BPC-157. Peptide products have gained support from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In February of this year on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, he said he is a "super fan" of peptides, adding: "I've used them myself, and they've really worked well for a few injuries." In the absence of scientific evidence, peptide products have also been hyped on social media for benefits such as muscle building, skin health, boosting energy, and improving cognitive function. The secretary has previously advocated that peptide products should be manufactured domestically in the United States, as most peptides used by Americans are currently produced overseas, raising questions about their quality and safety. At the most basic level, peptides are the building blocks of proteins, and the human body naturally produces many types of peptides. In July of this year, an advisory committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted to allow compounding pharmacies to use BPC-157 for personalized treatment. The expert panel also endorsed several other peptide products.
