On Wednesday, Liquidia (LQDA.US) surged over 25% in early trading, now at $33.72. On the news front, the company previously announced a $380.7 million settlement agreement with UnitedHealthcare, ending years of legal disputes over its pulmonary arterial hypertension treatment product. The agreement, announced on Tuesday, resolves six pending lawsuits between the two parties. Additionally, the agreement allows Liquidia to continue selling its inhaled formulation YUTREPIA for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) without any interruption.
The settlement removes significant legal uncertainty for Liquidia as it expands sales of YUTREPIA and advances its drug development pipeline. Liquidia CEO Roger Jeffs stated that the agreement enables the company to shift its focus from litigation to expanding YUTREPIA sales and developing new treatment options.
