Mech-Mind (09615) is just "one step away" from breaking throughis there a chance?
Mech-Mind's inclusion in the Stock Connect is a test of two doors.
On September 1, Mech-Mind (09615) listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as the "first embodied intelligence eye-brain-hand stock," with an oversubscription ratio of 3,835 times that set a new record for Hong Kong Siasun Robot&Automation IPOs. A total of 250,000 investors rushed to subscribe, and for a time it was basking in the spotlight.
At the time of listing, the market was deeply interested in its two main narrative threadsfirst, the embodied intelligence story of fully self-developed "eye-brain-hand" technology; second, the imagination of incremental southbound capital from the mainland entering after inclusion in the Stock Connect.
However, the frenzy quickly receded. On its first day of trading, Mech-Mind's share price broke issue price and closed down at HK$99.8, a drop of 1.87% from the offer price. More than a month later, its share price had fallen to HK$80 (as of the October 13 close), with a total market capitalization of about HK$10 billion, a discount of about 21% from the offer price (HK$101.7). It is just a little short of the Stock Connect threshold.

Stock Connect inclusion: Shein took the express lane, Mech-Mind took the slow lane
In fact, Mech-Mind's Stock Connect inclusion appears on the surface to be a question of whether its market capitalization is sufficient, but in reality it is a precise calculation involving criteria and timing.
According to estimates by LiveReport and other big data sources, as of June 30, 2026, the market capitalization threshold for non-A+H Hong Kong-listed companies to enter the Hang Seng Composite Index and Stock Connect was approximately HK$10.156 billion. Mech-Mind's current total market capitalization is about HK$10 billion, leaving a gap of about 1.5% under this criterion, corresponding to a share price that would need to rise from HK$80 to about HK$81.2, a gain of about 1.5%.
But total market capitalization is a figure under the "full circulation assumption." What really needs to be considered is Mech-Mind's Hong Kong stock market capitalization (the market capitalization corresponding to Hong Kong share capital)currently about HK$9.048 billion, leaving a gap of about HK$1.1 billion from HK$10.156 billion, corresponding to a share price that would need to rise to about HK$89.8, a gain of about 12.2%.
More critical is the time dimension. Stock Connect assesses the average month-end market capitalization over the 12 months before the review date, not the market capitalization at a single point in time. Mech-Mind only listed in September, so by the December 31 baseline date only four full months can be counted, and market capitalization for the first eight months is zero. Even if the share price stands above HK$90, the rolling 12-month average market capitalization would still be far below the threshold.
And why was Shein, which listed on the same day as Mech-Mind, able to enter Stock Connect early?
It is understood that the Hang Seng Composite Index has a fast-track inclusion rule: if a new stock's closing market capitalization on its first day of trading ranks in the top 10% of Hang Seng Composite Index constituents, it can be directly included in the index on the 10th trading day.
Shein, which listed on the same day, September 1, had a closing market capitalization of about HK$205 billion on its first day of trading. Within two days of listing it triggered the fast-track inclusion mechanism, effective from September 15. Mech-Mind, by contrast, had a market capitalization of about HK$12.5 billion on its first day of trading, more than an order of magnitude short of the top 10% threshold. The fast track closed, leaving only the semi-annual adjustment window. The next baseline date is December 31, with results to be announced in February 2027 and effective in March.
This also means that for companies that rang the gong on the same day, Shein took the fast track, while Mech-Mind took the slow lane.
It is worth noting that even if market capitalization meets the standard and timing is satisfied, a higher wall still stands in front of Mech-Mind.
According to GMTEight, Mech-Mind listed as an 18C specialist technology company and adopted a weighted voting rights structure. Under Stock Connect rules, such companies must also meet three additional conditions for initial inclusion: at least 6 months and 20 trading days since listing, an average daily market capitalization of no less than HK$20 billion over the 183 days before the review date, and total turnover of no less than HK$6 billion over the same period. That HK$20 billion is twice Mech-Mind's current market capitalization.
The front door has a threshold of HK$10.156 billion, while the back door has a wall of HK$20 billionit is not hard to see that Mech-Mind's path to Stock Connect inclusion is a double-door test.
A valuation interrogation at 30 times PS: the narrative has run ahead of revenue
If Stock Connect inclusion is stuck on institutional and liquidity issues, then the deeper hesitation lies in a more fundamental question: what exactly is the market pricing in?
Mech-Mind's IPO pricing corresponded to about 30 times PS, a valuation of the long-term potential of embodied intelligence. But looking at the 2026 interim report, the company achieved revenue of RMB240 million, up 54.7% year on year; gross profit of RMB154 million, with gross margin rising from 61.4% to 65.0%; new orders of RMB335 million, up 75.3% year on year; and overseas revenue of RMB100 million, up 68.3% year on year. Its repurchase rate was 93.9%, and its customers covered more than 100 Fortune Global 500 companies. These figures are enough to prove that commercialization capability is accelerating.
But the hidden concerns are equally clear: the company is still loss-making, and under high-intensity R&D investment it is still some distance from the break-even point. According to the interim report, in the first half, Mech-Mind's operating loss widened to RMB77.454 million, while R&D investment reached RMB80.1 million, up 72.9% year on year, with R&D expenses accounting for 33.8% of total revenue.
In terms of revenue structure, Mech-GPT and Mech-Hand, the two products on which high hopes rest, are expected to begin large-scale launch only at the end of 2026 according to the prospectus plan, and may form commercially scaled revenue only in the second half of 2027. At present, more than 99% of the company's revenue comes from industrial 3D cameras and Siasun Robot&Automation guidance businessthis is the "eye" business, a mature business with customer repurchases and clear accounting.
The so-called embodied intelligence narrative is more of a long-term story for the future and has not yet been fully reflected in the revenue statement. This also means that 30 times PS is buying a future about "hands and brain," but what is written in the books is still the present of the "eye."
This also explains at a deeper level why Mech-Mind's share price has been stuckthe market is willing to pay a premium for the embodied intelligence narrative, but the interim report data is not yet enough to convince investors that the premium can be converted into profit.
Summary
So, with Mech-Mind just one step away from Stock Connect inclusion, is there a chance?
If Mech-Mind's share price can continue to trade above HK$80 through the December 31 baseline date, while trading volume effectively expands, its rolling average market capitalization is expected to gradually approach the threshold, and its chances of Stock Connect inclusion are clearly there.
But this requires two preconditions to hold at the same time: first, the short-term share price must rise from the current level around HK$80 to above HK$90 and hold there, corresponding to a gain of about 12%; second, average daily turnover must rise by at least an order of magnitude from the current level of several million Hong Kong dollars.
As of the October 13 close, Mech-Mind's full-day turnover was HK$14.182 million. On October 9 and October 12, turnover was HK$11.6059 million and HK$14.182 million, respectively, so a foundation for tens of millions in liquidity already exists. If the share price rises from around HK$80 to above HK$90 and holds through the December 31 baseline date, while turnover continues to expand, the rolling average market capitalization is expected to approach the HK$10.156 billion threshold, and Stock Connect inclusion would turn from being one step away into a final kick at the door. Conversely, if the share price remains stuck at HK$80 for a long time and turnover returns to the level of several million Hong Kong dollars, the December baseline date will still leave it outside the door, and it will have to wait for the next window while continuing to face the HK$20 billion market capitalization wall for 18C weighted voting rights companies.
The real breakthrough variable still lies in performance: if Mech-GPT and Mech-Hand can be launched as scheduled at the end of 2026 and generate orders, revenue can move from "eye" to "eye-brain-hand," losses can narrow with scale, and southbound capital will have a reason to stay for the long term. If the new products are delayed and revenue still relies on 3D cameras walking on one leg, then even if it barely enters Stock Connect, it will be difficult to obtain sustained incremental capital.
Therefore, Mech-Mind has a chance at Stock Connect inclusion, but the chance lies in volume and price, and even more in performance. First it must hold above HK$90 and expand volume, then let orders and profit take over.
