HKEX announces it will add 12 stock option classes on November 9, 2026.
HKEX announced today (12 October) that it will add 12 new stock option classes on 9 November 2026. The new stock options will offer both weekly and monthly expiries from the first trading day, further expanding investor choice and allowing market participants to select the most suitable expiry contracts based on their trading and risk management needs.
Stock options are one of HKEX's fastest-growing derivatives products, with average daily volume of 899,056 contracts in the first nine months of 2026, up 1.4% year-on-year and a record high for the period. Weekly stock options have also proven popular among investors, with volume exceeding 51 million contracts since their launch in November 2024, consistently accounting for about 20% of the volume of the relevant stock option products. Together with the new additions, HKEX's weekly stock option contracts will cover 66 listed companies and exchange-traded funds across different sectors.
