Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo holds innovation and technology enterprise luncheon in Seoul to showcase new opportunities in innovation and technology development to the Korean industry
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo held an innovation and technology enterprise networking luncheon in Seoul, South Korea, to promote Hong Kong's strategic development in innovation and technology and to provide a platform for Korean enterprises to share their experiences in establishing and developing businesses in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo (Tokyo ETO), together with Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), today (October 8) held an innovation and technology (I&T) enterprise luncheon in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, through the "GoGBA" platform to promote Hong Kong's strategic I&T development and provide a platform for Korean enterprises to share their experience in setting up and developing businesses in Hong Kong.
Speaking at the luncheon, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Miss Winsome Lam, said that with the unique advantages under "one country, two systems", Hong Kong is an ideal platform for Korean enterprises to develop and expand their I&T businesses and tap into the Mainland and global markets.
Miss Lam said that the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026-2030) (the First Five-Year Plan for Hong Kong) states that promoting I&T development is one of the highest strategic priorities for Hong Kong's future economic growth. On I&T, the First Five-Year Plan for Hong Kong sets out a clear strategic roadmap to accelerate Hong Kong's development into an international I&T centre, including the development of three major I&T parks and five major research and development institutions.
She added that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will invest substantial resources to promote I&T development, including setting up a $10 billion I&T Industry-Oriented Fund to support the commercialisation and industrialisation of research and development outcomes. Together with market capital, the fund is expected to leverage at least $40 billion.
Representatives of Korean enterprises that joined a study mission to Hong Kong for three consecutive days from late August to early September also shared their experience of visiting Hong Kong's major I&T hubs and strategic infrastructure at the luncheon. The Tokyo ETO encouraged participants who had not yet visited Hong Kong to come to Hong Kong in person to learn about the latest developments in Hong Kong's transformation into an international I&T and business hub.
The Tokyo ETO will continue to work closely with Invest Hong Kong, the HKTDC and other regional partners to foster I&T partnerships and strengthen ties between Korea and Hong Kong.
