According to people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street syndicate of Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US) is preparing to raise $60 billion in new financing for artificial intelligence (AI) chip purchases, with beneficiaries set to include Anthropic PBC and other companies.
The people said banks involved in the massive debt package are preparing to send a syndication letter for a $42 billion Class A senior secured loan. The people requested anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced.
Blackstone Inc. (BX.US) is leading a $18 billion Class B subordinated debt tranche, committing $9 billion from multiple funds under its management and planning to syndicate the remainder, the people said.
A representative for Broadcom Inc. declined to comment.
The financing has been in the works for weeks and is being closely watched by Wall Street and Silicon Valley professionals to gauge whether investors remain enthusiastic about backing AI infrastructure buildouts amid public opposition to data center construction. Broadcom Inc. aims to sell more chips and other data center equipment to challenge NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US), while AI companies like Anthropic need to continuously expand computing power.
The people said in August that the potential deal would help companies like Anthropic obtain chips and other critical AI infrastructure.
The funds represent an addition to the hundreds of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure debt financing already completed globally. While most of that money has flowed to data centers, deals to finance chips and servers are also multiplying.
Also in August, NVIDIA Corporation announced partnerships with six financial giants, including Blackstone, planning to mobilize more than $500 billion for the AI sector, including helping customers finance their purchases of NVIDIA Corporation chips.
Meanwhile, Blackstone's investment in Anthropic has also boosted the performance of its private equity fund Eldorado Gold Corporation aimed at high-net-worth individuals.
