Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) Gemini 4 Argon Makes a Blockbuster Debut: Billed as "the most advanced yet," topping multiple benchmarks as the AI race heats up again.
Alphabet (GOOGL.US) officially released Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday, its most advanced AI model to date, delivering major upgrades in coding, cybersecurity, and complex professional work.
Alphabet (GOOGL.US) officially released Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday, its most advanced AI model to date, delivering major upgrades in coding, cybersecurity, and complex professional work. The company said the model set a new record in real-world software engineering tests, tied for first place in a cybersecurity benchmark, and topped another benchmark measuring performance on finance, legal, and other professional tasks.
Alphabet Inc. Class C said Argon has already been used internally to optimize data center memory, freeing up hundreds of TB of memory without additional hardware purchases. Quantum computing researchers have also used the model.
Alphabet Inc. Class C plans a phased rollout of the new model, starting with trusted cybersecurity partners, while working with the U.S. government on pre-release safety evaluations.
Tulsee Doshi, product lead for Alphabet Inc. Class C's Gemini models, said: "Launching the rollout this way gives us more confidence and allows us to get a model trained with strong cyber defense capabilities into the hands of defenders as quickly as possible."
The release came a day after Alphabet Inc. Class C CEO Sundar Pichai signed a voluntary agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump and leading tech executives at the White House. The signing followed a lunch meeting to discuss growing AI safety concerns.
The Gemini 4 release comes nearly a year after the launch of Gemini 3, which brought the tech company back to the forefront of the heated AI model race. The highly anticipated new model represents a major push by Alphabet Inc. Class C at the frontier and continues its strategy of shifting toward faster-scaling, lower-cost Flash models.
Alphabet Inc. Class C said Wednesday that ahead of the public release, it is seeking to step up safeguards in four key cybersecurity areas, including misuse and prompt injection.
Doshi called Gemini 4 an "extremely well-rounded" model that excels at long-running, multi-step tasks. The new model also represents a significant cybersecurity upgrade over the 3.8 Flash Cyber model Alphabet Inc. Class C released earlier this month, performing better at vulnerability discovery.
Doshi said: "We do think a model with this level of capability and frontier performance is meaningful for defenders."
In cybersecurity benchmarks, Argon tied with OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and Grok 4.7; on the Vals Index, it led GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's recent model.
