China solidified its position as the world's leading robotics market by deploying a record 354,000 industrial units in 2025—accounting for 59% of global installations—driven by national policy, domestic innovation, and rising demand across key manufacturing sectors.

China has solidified its dominant hold on the global manufacturing landscape, accounting for nearly three-fifths of all industrial robots installed worldwide in 2025. According to the World Robotics 2026 report published by the Frankfurt-based International Federation of Robotics (IFR), China deployed a record-breaking 354,000 industrial robots last year alone. This figure reflects a robust 20 percent increase from 2024, eclipsing the nation's previous annual record by nearly 60,000 units and representing 59 percent of global installations. Rather than showing signs of deceleration, the Chinese robotics market is expanding its lead, driven by long-term state planning, rapid sector-specific automation, and a decisive shift toward domestic technological independence.

This extraordinary growth is the direct product of a sustained national agenda. A decade after launching its initial robotics strategy, China is leveraging automation to modernize its entire industrial foundation. Under the framework of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), the national strategy is evolving to integrate advanced artificial intelligence directly into physical applications, positioning intelligent robotics as a primary engine for future economic expansion. By focusing on physical AI, China is transitioning from an adopter of automated machinery into a global pioneer of next-generation, self-learning industrial systems.

Industrial demand within China spans several core manufacturing sectors. The electrical and electronics industry led adoption in 2025, deploying 96,400 units—a 16 percent year-on-year surge that represented 27 percent of total domestic installations. Close behind, the automotive sector experienced a dramatic 38 percent increase to reach a record 78,900 installations, while the metal and machinery sector saw an even steeper rise of 44 percent to hit 78,700 units. Together, these high-tech and traditional manufacturing pillars demonstrate the breadth of China's automated transformation.

Concurrently, Chinese robot manufacturers are capturing a dominant share of their home market. Domestic suppliers deployed 195,000 units in 2025, reflecting a 15 percent annual growth rate and securing a 55 percent share of total installations. Foreign suppliers also expanded by 27 percent, highlighting that while international players still find lucrative opportunities in China, local brands have firmly controlled the majority of the market since 2024. Guided by national policy imperatives emphasizing self-reliance, domestic suppliers are continuously building competitive advantages in hardware production and AI integration.

Looking forward, the Chinese industrial robotics market remains far from saturation. The IFR projects sustained average annual growth between 5 and 10 percent through 2029. Deepening demographic shifts and resulting labor shortages make automated production essential for maintaining supply chain resilience and industrial productivity. As China aligns its industrial policy with cutting-edge AI research, its robotics ecosystem is poised to maintain its undisputed leadership in global manufacturing for years to come.
