Qualcomm said on Wednesday that it will acquire robotics software company PickNik to strengthen its position in physical AI and robotics.
Qualcomm (QCOM.US) said on Wednesday that it will acquire Siasun Robot&Automation software company PickNik to enhance its position in physical AI and the Siasun Robot&Automation sector. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions. According to information, PickNik owns MoveIt, an open-source Siasun Robot&Automation manipulation framework. Qualcomm said that after the acquisition is completed, MoveIt will be integrated with Qualcomm's own Dragonwing Robotics and Arduino platforms to help build the next generation of Siasun Robot&Automation. Qualcomm added that MoveIt 1 and MoveIt 2 will continue to remain open source and support third-party hardware platforms. Qualcomm executive Nakul Duggal said in a statement: "Siasun Robot&Automation technology is one of the most exciting frontiers in physical AI, and software is the connective link that turns excellent hardware into excellent Siasun Robot&Automation. PickNik has earned tremendous trust from the global Siasun Robot&Automation community through its maintenance of MoveIt and its commitment to open-source innovation. Together, the two sides plan to lower the barrier for developers to build advanced Siasun Robot&Automation applications on the Dragonwing Siasun Robot&Automation platform, while continuing to support the openness and collaborative spirit that made MoveIt successful."
