Hong Kong: About 1.29 million mainland visitors are expected to visit Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week. Hong Kong Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki said at a meeting of the interdepartmental working group on festive arrangements that the number of mainland visitors to Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week is expected to increase. The Immigration Department estimates that about 1.29 million mainland visitors will enter Hong Kong through various sea, land and air control points during this year's mainland National Day Golden Week, with the average daily number of visitors to Hong Kong increasing by more than 5% compared with last year's mainland National Day Golden Week. Chan Kwok-ki said the Hong Kong government will make good preparations for receiving visitors to Hong Kong, maintain close contact with relevant organizations and the tourism industry, and do a good job in crowd management, information dissemination, public transport and port arrangements, so as to provide visitors to Hong Kong with a quality experience. Port departments have reduced leave for frontline staff so that manpower can be flexibly deployed, and additional inspection counters and lanes can be opened to ease the flow of people and vehicles. In response to the likely significant increase in the number of visitors to campsites such as the East Dam of High Island Reservoir and Ham Tin Wan in Sai Kung during the mainland National Day Golden Week, police will deploy uniformed officers to implement traffic control at strategic locations in Pak Tam Chung, Man Yee Road and the East Dam during peak periods when tourists arrive and leave.
