Meta's (META.US) newly launched AI agent showed initial signs of success, boosting investor sentiment. Data showed that Samsung Electronics shares rose as much as 3.5%, while SK Hynix gained as much as 3.3%, driving the KOSPI up 2.3%.
In the overnight U.S. stock market, semiconductor stocks closed higher across the board. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 4.3%, its biggest single-day gain since August 4; Arm (ARM.US) surged 17.16%, Intel Corporation (INTC.US) climbed 12.14%, AMD (AMD.US) rose 9.95%, Qualcomm (QCOM.US) gained 9.29%, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR (TSM.US) added 2.42%, ASML Holding NV ADR (ASML.US) rose 1.87%, and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US) advanced 1.60%. AMD also joined NVIDIA Corporation, Broadcom Inc., and Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) to become the fourth U.S. chip company in history to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization.
Meta's Muse AI agent quickly gained market attention just two weeks after its launch, sending a positive signal that AI agents are moving from technical demonstrations to mass-market products. Muse is a personal AI agent officially launched by Meta earlier this month, positioned as capable of performing multi-step tasks and able to connect to services including email, calendars, payments, dining, and shopping. Muse has now replaced ChatGPT as the most popular free app on the U.S. iOS platform. According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, after Muse launched on September 8, the tool received 730,000 downloads in about five days and topped the app store rankings.
Meanwhile, expectations that the Middle East war could see diplomatic progress pushed oil prices lower, further boosting market risk appetite. It is reported that Trump expressed willingness to meet with Iranian President Pezeshkian, who is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. In addition, reports said Iran has conveyed conditions for restarting negotiations to mediators.
