Investor Michael Burry disclosed that he has bought common and preferred shares of building products company QXO (QXO.US), citing its consolidation strategy and currently depressed stock price. The stock jumped 7.2% on Monday and, as of press time, rose another 2.5% in after-hours trading. Burry gained fame for shorting the U.S. housing market before the 2008 financial crisis and was one of the real-life inspirations for the film "The Big Short." He disclosed the investment in a post on Substack. "QXO is a roll-up platform in the building products space. In this industry, scale effects are real," Burry wrote. He said QXO's economics should improve as it expands through acquisitions. Burry also noted that the company's CEO, Brad Jacobs, has a strong track record of building companies through consolidation. "The stock has fallen sharply, and I think this is an entry opportunity," Burry wrote. QXO is pursuing an aggressive acquisition strategy in the highly fragmented building products distribution market. The company completed its acquisition of Beacon Roofing Supply in 2025, gaining a large distribution network serving roofing materials and other building markets. For investors, Burry's purchase adds a well-known value investor to QXO's shareholder base, but the investment thesis depends in part on whether management can successfully pursue more acquisitions and deliver returns from greater scale. At the same time, QXO remains exposed to construction and renovation demand, so the pace of any recovery in the housing market is crucial to its performance.
