The quarterly rebalancing of the Nasdaq 100 index will take effect before the U.S. market open on Monday, September 21. The core change is that SpaceX's (SPCX.US) index weight will surge from approximately 1.28% previously to 2.82%. The rocket, satellite, and AI company owned by Elon Musk has a market capitalization exceeding $2 trillion. When the company was added to the Nasdaq 100 index in July, its weight was relatively small because most of its shares were in a lock-up period, limiting the number of shares available for public trading. As the lock-up period ends, the company's free float and its weight in the Nasdaq 100 index are expected to increase, prompting index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking the benchmark to buy more of the company's shares. It is reported that there are currently more than 200 investment products globally tracking the Nasdaq 100 index, with total assets under management exceeding $800 billion. On the same day, S&P Dow Jones Indices' quarterly rebalancing will also take effect. The S&P 100 index will add Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks, SanDisk, and Dell Technologies, Inc. Class C, while the S&P 500 index will add Everpure, Bloom Energy, and Illumina. This adjustment is a routine rebalancing, and passive fund repositioning on the effective date may drive volume and price fluctuations in related tech stocks, with Arista, Palo Alto, and others expected to receive increased passive allocations.
