Hong Kong's GDP grew by 4.3% in real terms year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026.

The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government today (September 18) released the preliminary figures on Gross Domestic Product by economic activity in respect of the second quarter of 2026, computed at chain volume measures.
The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government today (September 18) released the preliminary figures on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by economic activity in chained dollar terms for the second quarter of 2026. According to the preliminary statistics, GDP as a whole increased by 4.3% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 5.9% increase in the first quarter. The GDP figures by economic activity show the production value of individual economic activities. Production value is measured by value added or net output, computed by subtracting intermediate consumption from gross output. The volume estimates of GDP by economic activity (in chained dollar terms) have removed the effect of price changes, facilitating analysis of the real growth of output of individual industries. Analysed by constituent service sectors and compared with the same period a year earlier, the value added of all service activities taken together increased by 5.1% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, compared with the 6.0% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the import/export, wholesale and retail trades increased by 12.8% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 14.5% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the accommodation and food services sector decreased by 0.1% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 0.5% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the transportation, storage, postal and courier services sector increased by 1.1% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 4.1% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the information and communications sector increased by 2.9% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 3.6% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the financing and insurance sector increased by 7.4% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 7.8% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the real estate, professional and business services sector recorded a 2.4% increase in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 2.7% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the public administration, social and personal services sector increased by 0.9% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 2.0% increase in the first quarter. For sectors other than the service sectors, the value added of the local manufacturing sector increased by 2.3% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 3.1% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the electricity, gas and water supply, and waste management sector increased by 2.5% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 1.2% increase in the first quarter. The value added of the construction sector decreased by 17.0% in real terms in the second quarter of 2026 over the same period a year earlier, compared with the 8.4% increase in the first quarter.
