NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) CEO Jensen Huang expects the company's chip sales to potentially double over the coming year as artificial intelligence technology accelerates its penetration across industries, indicating that global demand for AI infrastructure remains on a strong growth trajectory.
Speaking to media on Thursday while attending an event in Scotland convened by King Charles III, Huang said AI is delivering enormous value across multiple industries, with its range of applications still expanding. As a major supplier in the global AI chip market, NVIDIA Corporation's AI accelerators are widely used for training and inference of artificial intelligence models.
Despite growing market concerns in recent months over the potential risks of rapid AI development, Huang remains optimistic about the industry's outlook. Some in the tech industry have previously called for slowing the pace of AI development to reduce the safety risks AI may pose. In response, Huang said companies need to shoulder corresponding responsibilities and ensure the safety of their products before launching AI software and services.
NVIDIA Corporation's previously released business outlook also indicates that AI demand remains robust. Last month, the company projected sales would grow about 70% year over year in the next fiscal year. NVIDIA Corporation also said revenue could even double if it can secure enough chip supply to meet rapidly growing market demand.
The buildout of AI data centers and companies' continued increases in AI-related capital expenditures have driven NVIDIA Corporation's rapid performance growth in recent years. As AI applications expand further from large technology companies into more industries, demand for high-performance computing chips continues to rise.
Boosted by Huang's latest remarks and the outlook for AI demand, NVIDIA Corporation shares rose as much as 2.8% during Thursday's New York trading session, helping recoup some of last week's losses. Year to date, the company's stock has gained about 17%.
Huang's expectation that chip sales will double in the coming year further highlights NVIDIA Corporation's confidence in the durability of the AI investment cycle. Whether the company can secure enough advanced chip capacity in the future and convert massive AI demand into actual shipments and revenue growth will become a key focus for the market.
