Nokia and Microsoft Corporation expand their partnership to automate telecom networks using an AI platform.
Nokia Oyj Sponsored ADR (NOK.US) announced on Thursday an expansion of its partnership with Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US), with the two parties integrating their respective telecom data and analytics platforms to support network automation in multi-vendor environments. According to Nokia Oyj Sponsored ADR's announcement, this cross-vendor, cross-network-domain solution combines Nokia Data Suite with Microsoft Fabric. The first use cases include VoNR (5G New Radio voice) automated assurance, radio access network (RAN) optimization, and predictive maintenance; the solution is now commercially available, with more autonomous network deployments to follow. Following the news, Nokia Oyj Sponsored ADR shares rose about 5% in Thursday premarket trading. Nokia Data Suite provides out-of-the-box telecom data products, featuring "glass-box" data quality control and telecom-specific semantic modeling to ensure AI decisions are explainable; Microsoft Fabric provides unified data platform capabilities, including OneLake storage, analytics tools, and AI-native applications such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, Foundry, and Power BI. Nokia Oyj Sponsored ADR said that after integration, operators can obtain trusted data in minutes rather than weeks as before, significantly shortening the time needed to prepare network data for AI applications. Starting with radio access network and fault management After integration, AI Agents can perform automated root cause analysis and closed-loop operations on the network while retaining human oversight. The solution is designed for multi-vendor, cross-network-domain environments and supports public cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premises deployment, making it easier for operators to meet different regulatory requirements while advancing automation; Nokia Oyj Sponsored ADR's telecom data can also be connected with enterprise, IT, and third-party data in Microsoft Fabric. Initial deployments focus on three scenarios: first, autonomous VoNR assurance, where AI Agents detect service issues, analyze causes, and provide remediation recommendations; second, geo-experience analysis, using AI to locate users with poor wireless performance experience and identify coverage and capacity hotspots, covering both network slicing users and regular 4G and 5G users; third, predictive maintenance and fault management, where Agents combine historical and real-time data to identify problems before they affect customers. In addition, AI operations assistants can serve as copilots for network engineers, providing contextual insights, action recommendations, and automated workflow execution.
