On September 17, the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department released the volume and price statistics for external merchandise trade for July. Comparing July 2026 with July 2025, the overall export volume and import volume of Hong Kong's merchandise increased by 31.6% and 23.6% respectively. Comparing the first seven months of 2026 with the same period of 2025, the overall export volume and import volume of Hong Kong's merchandise increased by 29.1% and 29.3% respectively. Seasonally adjusted figures show that comparing the three months ending July 2026 with the preceding three months, the overall export volume of merchandise increased by 0.9%, while the import volume of merchandise decreased by 4.7%. Comparing July 2026 with July 2025, the overall export prices and import prices of merchandise increased by 13.7% and 13.6% respectively. Comparing the first seven months of 2026 with the same period of 2025, the overall export prices and import prices of merchandise increased by 8.8% and 8.5% respectively. The terms of trade index is calculated based on the ratio of the overall export price index of merchandise to the import price index of merchandise. Compared with the same period of 2025, this index rose by 0.1% in July 2026, and rose by 0.3% in the first seven months of 2026. Comparing July 2026 with July 2025, overall export volumes to Taiwan (70.3%), the United States (64.2%), Vietnam (56.4%), and Mainland China (the Mainland) (34.7%) recorded increases. On the other hand, overall export volume to India decreased by 7.6%. Meanwhile, overall export prices to all major destinations increased: Mainland China (15.4%), the United States (14.3%), Vietnam (11.7%), Taiwan (11.5%), and India (11.0%). Comparing July 2026 with July 2025, import volumes from South Korea (89.1%), Singapore (23.7%), Mainland China (20.1%), and Taiwan (7.3%) recorded increases. On the other hand, import volume from Vietnam decreased by 7.0%. Meanwhile, import prices from all major suppliers increased: South Korea (31.3%), Taiwan (20.9%), Mainland China (14.2%), Vietnam (11.7%), and Singapore (10.2%).
