Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce launches three major strategic initiatives to help Hong Kong seize emerging opportunities.
The three major initiatives launched by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce are dedicated to helping members explore opportunities in the "Northern Metropolis," drive AI adoption across the board, and leverage top-tier international networks to "go global" and expand, providing businesses with a powerful strategic engine to capture a new round of growth and comprehensively enhance their international competitiveness.
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce announces the launch of three major strategic initiatives to align with the government's newly released "Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan" and the "2026 Policy Address." Chamber Chairman Kam Chak-pui said that "Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan" is of epoch-making significance for Hong Kong. It is not only Hong Kong's first medium- and long-term development blueprint, but also marks the SAR government's shift from past "alignment" to "proactive planning," which will provide the business community with clearer and more stable business expectations. The three initiatives launched by the Chamber are dedicated to helping members seize opportunities in the "Northern Metropolis," promote AI adoption across all sectors, and expand overseas through top-tier international networks, providing enterprises with a powerful strategic engine to capture a new round of growth and comprehensively enhance their international competitiveness.
Among them, regarding the Northern Metropolis, the aim is to establish the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce as the premier exchange platform for the government and business sectors, and to comprehensively empower members and the business community around six key areas of the Northern Metropolis, including infrastructure, financing, innovation and technology, talent, sustainable development, and livability.
To fully accelerate the implementation of AI applications and further improve Hong Kong's artificial intelligence ecosystem, the Chamber is launching a four-phase strategy, including establishing an "SME AI Adoption Benchmark," setting up an "AI Application Exchange Platform," forming "AI Application Practice Groups," and proposing "Evidence-Based Policy Recommendations."
Regarding the "going global" strategy, the aim is to assist mainland enterprises in expanding into overseas markets through Hong Kong, based on two core pillars. The Chamber will bring together professional members to provide services covering international law, taxation, and financing, with Malaysia as the first pilot, to be subsequently expanded to ASEAN, Central Asia, and Middle East markets.
The Chamber also stated that it fully supports the promotion of "Finance+" development to further consolidate Hong Kong's leading position as an international financial, shipping, aviation, trade, and innovation center. It welcomes the government's promotion of financial innovation, including the application of digital assets and tokenization technology, to further enhance Hong Kong's role as a shipping finance, insurance, and sustainable finance center, and to strengthen support for innovative enterprise financing and the development of the commodities trading ecosystem.
The Chamber also supports consolidating Hong Kong's advantages as a cross-border wealth management center and global offshore RMB business hub, attracting regional headquarters and corporate treasury centers to establish a presence in Hong Kong, promoting smart and green shipping transformation, strengthening aviation links with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, accelerating the construction of key innovation and technology platforms such as the Hetao Cooperation Zone and San Tin Technopole, strengthening R&D investment and innovation and technology ecosystem development, and promoting Hong Kong's development into an international healthcare innovation hub through deepening cross-border clinical trials and research resource cooperation.
At the same time, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce will leverage its primary advantages as a "super connector" and "super value-adder" to precisely connect suppliers with high-growth global markets and build bridges for business expansion, including leading a delegation to visit Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia in September, as well as future study missions to Central Asia and the Middle East.
