What signals did the Dreamforce conference send? The "SaaS doomsday theory" is once again refuted, and Salesforce, Inc. (CRM.US) receives a bullish call from Mizuho.
After the Dreamforce conference, Mizuho Securities once again raised its price target on Salesforce, Inc. analysts say the outlook for 2026 is "much better" than for 2025.
Salesforce, Inc. (CRM.US) received a fresh bullish call from Mizuho after the first day of the Dreamforce conference. Mizuho raised its price target on the stock from $265 to $280 and maintained its "Outperform" rating. Dreamforce is Salesforce, Inc.'s annual flagship conference, used to launch products, announce partnerships, and showcase customer deployment cases. This year's event runs from September 15 to September 17 in San Francisco. Mizuho highlighted that Salesforce, Inc. rolled out a large number of new interfaces to help customers extract more value from existing deployments, and said the company's outlook for 2026 is "much better" than in 2025.
This is Mizuho's second price target hike in three weeks. On August 27, the firm had just raised its target from $250 to $265, with analyst Gregg Moskowitz. Based on the September 15 closing price of $255.65, the new $280 target implies roughly 9.5% upside, and it is also clearly above the Wall Street consensus target.
"Helping customers get more value from existing deployments"
The "new interfaces" Mizuho values correspond to the interface layer Salesforce, Inc. is pushing at this year's conference. At Dreamforce 2026, the company launched AIforce bringing CRM data, workflows, business logic, permissions, and governance into existing interfaces such as Claude, Slack, and Lightning, so employees can query records, update data, and trigger processes without opening Salesforce, Inc.'s traditional application interface; the company stressed that relevant requests still follow existing permissions and business rules.
The launch includes several specific components: Claudeforce connects Salesforce, Inc. to Anthropic's Claude through prebuilt MCP servers and 37 sales skills; Slackforce puts interactive Salesforce, Inc. interfaces into Slack; and Agentforce Coworker provides an AI colleague within the Lightning interface. Salesforce, Inc. says Coworker reached 100,000 activated users within 35 days of launch.
The explanation for this approach is: rather than asking customers to rebuild systems, embed AI into the interfaces and data customers already use which precisely echoes Mizuho's phrasing about "helping customers get more value from existing deployments."
What else was announced at Dreamforce
Koa: Salesforce, Inc.'s first customer relationship management (CRM) reasoning model for Agentforce, built on NVIDIA Corporation's Nemotron technology and trained on synthetic scenarios modeled on nearly three decades of CRM knowledge, designed to handle complex, multi-step enterprise workflows. Koa is post-trained from NVIDIA Corporation's open-weight model Nemotron 3 Super (120 billion parameters), using supervised fine-tuning plus GRPO reinforcement learning, with no customer data used in training; it is currently available only to a small group of Agentforce pilot customers, with general availability expected in the U.S. region in winter 2026, and still lags GPT-5.5 and Claude Opus 4.8 on public benchmarks, reflecting a "specialized" rather than "frontier" approach.
Live Nation expands usage: Salesforce, Inc. and Live Nation Entertainment (LYV.US) previously announced that the latter will expand its use of Agentforce across U.S. venues. The deployment builds on Melody, the guide agent previously used at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival, and uses a single "Venue Agent" to provide venue-specific Q&A across multiple locations.
Expanded Alphabet Inc. Class C cloud partnership: The partnership between the two companies was further expanded so that Salesforce, Inc. and Alphabet Inc. Class C agents can reason over shared data and execute actions without custom integrations. Salesforce, Inc. is also deepening its cooperation with Amazon.com, Inc. cloud technology (AWS) at the same time connecting Salesforce, Inc. data to Amazon Q, bringing AWS AI agents into Slack, enabling Agentforce customers to call Anthropic and NVIDIA Corporation foundation models through Amazon Bedrock, with plans to expand to OpenAI soon; on the Alphabet Inc. Class C cloud side, Hyperforce on Google Cloud was launched, with plans starting in the fourth quarter of 2026 to migrate some U.S. customers to Alphabet Inc. Class C cloud infrastructure.
Conference scale and prior groundwork: This year's Dreamforce is being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, featuring more than 1,600 breakout sessions, more than 50 product and vision keynotes, more than 150 hands-on training sessions and demos, and more than 240 community roundtables; more than 40,000 people are expected to attend in person, with over 200,000 registered online. Ahead of the event, on September 11, the company pre-released seven role-based "job-ready" Agentforce agents and launched the "Trusted Enterprise AI Harness," a governance layer for multi-agent parallelism; the company says Agentforce and Slack have cumulatively delivered 7 billion "agent work units," with 3.2 billion contributed in the last quarter; Agentforce's annual recurring revenue (ARR) reached $1.5 billion, up 240% year over year.
A global outage on the same day
Alongside the conference buzz, a global service disruption occurred. According to reports, Salesforce, Inc. was still dealing with a persistent outage affecting its Core Service on Wednesday, saying customers in multiple regions might experience severe delays, intermittent errors, or be unable to access some services, and that it was investigating the issue and testing fixes before deployment.
The outage began around 3:50 a.m. Eastern Time on September 16, affecting hundreds of instances across the United States, Japan, India, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and elsewhere. The company initially determined that customer requests were stalling while waiting for responses from an internal login service, consuming available server resources; it later further explained that elevated load on a core system component had weakened its ability to process customer requests. The outage also affected the creation of support tickets, with some customers unable to submit new tickets through the help portal. The company first tried rolling restarts of individual affected instances, then explicitly abandoned restarts as a remediation path, instead validating the fix on a single instance before rolling it out region by region to all affected instances; about three hours later, the fix was being fully rolled out and customer service was beginning to recover, while the company also began work on a permanent code-level fix.
The timing was quite awkward: the outage occurred as Dreamforce entered its second day, when Salesforce, Inc. had been scheduled to hold a dedicated investor and analyst session to present its latest innovations and financial framework.
Fundamentals: Benioff pushes back on the "SaaS doomsday theory"
Salesforce, Inc.'s latest quarter (FY27 second quarter) revenue was $11.35 billion, up 11% year over year, and adjusted earnings per share were $5.90, up 104% year over year, both above market expectations; the company then raised its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion.
Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff said in the Dreamforce 2026 opening keynote that the company will enter the $50 billion annual revenue range next year, and pushed back on the "software-as-a-service (SaaS) doomsday theory" that has circulated over the past half year: "The SaaS apocalypse is not the end of software, but perhaps the end of software that makes humans do all the work." He also said the company's churn rate is at a historic low and contract durations are at a historic high although the company's latest earnings report only described churn as near historic lows in general terms and contract durations as lengthening across customer groups, without disclosing specific figures.
Capital returns and M&A activity were also intense: the company spent a record $27.1 billion on buybacks in the most recent quarter and paid a quarterly dividend of $0.44 per share; on September 10 it completed the acquisition of customer agent platform Fin, and people familiar with the matter previously said the company had held talks to acquire Listen Labs for about $2 billion (that report was not confirmed, and no deal was announced).
