The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced that preliminary visitor arrivals in August reached 5.46 million, up 6% year-on-year, setting a new post-pandemic monthly high. A number of major international conferences and mega events, including the "16th World Chinese Insurance Congress cum 2026 International Dragon Award (IDA) Annual Meeting," the "Hong Kong Football Festival (HKFF) 2026," and the "TIMA International Music Awards," attracted different visitor segments and drove arrivals from markets such as Mainland China, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
In the first eight months of this year, cumulative visitor arrivals reached about 36.67 million, up 11% year-on-year. Among these, Mainland China and long-haul markets maintained steady overall performance; short-haul markets continued to face challenges in visitor growth amid factors such as aviation capacity, fuel surcharges, and regional competition.
Looking ahead to the coming months, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will step up promotion of Chinese and Western festivals, including hosting the "International Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival," followed by Halloween promotional activities, and expanding the scale of flagship events such as the "Hong Kong Cyclothon," the "Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival," the "Hong Kong WinterFest," and the "Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations," to attract more high-value overnight visitors to Hong Kong and leverage tourism to drive the economy.
