HKMA: Foreign assets of the Exchange Fund fell to HK$3,652.7 billion in August
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published the main analytical accounts of the Exchange Fund at the end of August 2026.
On September 14, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority published the key analytical accounts of the Exchange Fund at the end of August 2026. In August, the foreign assets of the Exchange Fund decreased by HK$41.8 billion to HK$3,652.7 billion. The monetary base stood at HK$2,080.2 billion, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the balance of the banking system, and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued. Claims on the Hong Kong private sector amounted to HK$403.1 billion. External liabilities totaled HK$140.3 billion.
