National Bureau of Statistics: In August, the PPI rose 3.8% year-on-year and 0.4% month-on-month.
From January to August, the average producer prices for industrial products increased by 2.0% compared to the same period last year, while the purchase prices for industrial producers rose by 3.2%.
On September 9, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that in August 2026, the national industrial producer price index increased by 3.8% year-on-year and by 0.4% month-on-month. The industrial producer purchase price index rose by 5.8% year-on-year and by 0.3% month-on-month. On average from January to August, the industrial producer price index increased by 2.0% compared to the same period last year, while the industrial producer purchase price index rose by 3.2%.
I. Year-on-Year Changes in Industrial Producer Prices
In August, the prices of production materials within the industrial producer ex-factory prices rose by 5.0% year-on-year, contributing approximately 3.92 percentage points to the overall increase in industrial producer ex-factory prices. Among these, the prices in the mining industry increased by 17.8%, prices for raw materials rose by 6.7%, and processing industry prices increased by 3.1%. The prices of consumer goods decreased by 0.5%, which affected the overall level of industrial producer ex-factory prices by a reduction of about 0.10 percentage points. Specifically, food prices dropped by 2.3%, clothing prices fell by 1.2%, general daily necessities decreased by 0.8%, while durable consumer goods prices increased by 1.2%.
In the industrial producer purchase prices, prices for non-ferrous metal materials and wires increased by 19.8%, fuel and power prices rose by 9.8%, chemical raw materials prices increased by 9.5%, textile raw materials prices increased by 3.8%, and prices for ferrous metal materials increased by 0.3%. Prices for construction materials and non-metallic products declined by 3.2%, while agricultural and by-product prices fell by 0.5%.
II. Month-on-Month Changes in Industrial Producer Prices
In August, the prices of production materials in industrial producer ex-factory prices increased by 0.4% month-on-month, contributing approximately 0.32 percentage points to the total level of industrial producer ex-factory prices. Among these, mining industry prices rose by 2.7%, raw material prices increased by 0.8%, while processing industry prices remained unchanged. Prices for consumer goods rose by 0.2%, affecting the total level of industrial producer ex-factory prices by increasing it by about 0.04 percentage points. Specifically, food and clothing prices remained stable, prices for general daily necessities decreased by 0.2%, while durable consumer goods prices increased by 0.6%.
In industrial producer purchase prices, fuel and power prices rose by 1.4%, non-ferrous metal materials and wires prices increased by 0.8%, and textile raw materials prices rose by 0.6%; while prices for ferrous metal materials decreased by 0.6%, and chemical raw materials prices fell by 0.4%. Prices for agricultural and by-products, as well as construction materials and non-metallic products remained stable.
