Next week, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) will unveil its foldable screen iPhone.
Due to chip shortages and supply chain bottlenecks, industry insiders believe that the price of the foldable iPhone Ultra may be significantly higher than expected. Market research company IDC has released a new report predicting that the average selling price of the phone will be $2,550.
Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) will hold its fall product launch event at 1:00 AM Beijing time on September 10, which is the first product launch since John Ternus took over as CEO. The biggest suspense, of course, is the long-rumored first foldable iPhone from Apple Inc., and high-end models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will also debut simultaneously; however, the focus on the latter is more on "how much the price will increase."
Renowned tech leaker and foldable phone enthusiast Mark Gurman shared on social media that he has already splurged $20 to buy a case for the foldable iPhone from Apple Inc. early on.

Market research firm IDC released a new report predicting that the average selling price of this phone will be $2,550. Foldable phones represent a completely new product category for Apple Inc., so there isn't a price benchmark to predict its price yet. However, IDC's latest report confirms earlier rumors that the price of the iPhone Ultra will exceed $2,000.
However, industry experts point out that the price of the iPhone Ultra may not be $2,550; the actual average selling price could be much higher than the starting price since many consumers would pay more for larger storage options.
IDC also forecasts that by the end of 2027, Apple Inc. will sell over 17 million units of the iPhone Ultra and generate more than $45.7 billion in revenue. Moreover, Apple Inc. is expected to capture 40% of the global foldable device market share in the future.
Meanwhile, considering that next Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., it is highly likely that Apple Inc. will postpone the pre-order start time until the weekend. This means that the CPI data for August and the performance of the U.S. stock market next Friday may have some impact on consumers' willingness to upgrade their devices.
