CATHAY PAC AIR (00293) Lin Shaobo: The group's capacity has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, and the target number of destinations will increase to 150 in the next decade.
Lin Shaobo stated in an exclusive interview that overall capacity has surpassed the pre-pandemic level in the past three years and hopes that the number of global destinations can increase to 150 in the next ten years.
According to GMTEightAP, during an exclusive interview, CATHAY PAC AIR (00293), the largest airline group in Hong Kong, CEO Lin Shaobo stated that the overall capacity has exceeded pre-pandemic levels in the past three years, and he hopes the number of global destinations can increase to 150 in the next decade.
Lin pointed out that high-speed rail cannot completely replace air travel, as they serve complementary roles rather than being a "zero-sum game." He also mentioned that there are currently over 20 destinations between Hong Kong and the mainland, with hopes to continue increasing flights and destinations in the future.
In response to claims that ticket prices are too high, Lin stated that ticket prices depend on factors such as network, product, and service, and he aims to provide value for money. Data shows that the load factor is over 80%, indicating that many passengers actively choose Cathay. He added that for those looking for more affordable fares, they could consider Hong Kong Express, a subsidiary of the group.
Regarding future developments, Lin mentioned that they will enhance cabin and ground products and renovate short-haul aircraft. Additionally, the group plans to open its first Cathay lounge later this year at New York Airport, followed by a new lounge at Tokyo Narita Airport in early next year.
