According to the People's Bank of China, preliminary statistics show that by the end of the second quarter of 2026, the total assets of financial institutions in China amounted to 562.2 trillion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. Among these, the total assets of banking institutions reached 497.98 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 6.6%; the total assets of securities institutions were 20.37 trillion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 29.8%; and the total assets of insurance institutions amounted to 43.86 trillion yuan, up 11.8% year-on-year. The liabilities of financial institutions stood at 514.48 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.9% year-on-year. Specifically, the liabilities of banking institutions were 458.37 trillion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 6.8%; the liabilities of securities institutions totaled 16.32 trillion yuan, showing a year-on-year increase of 36.6%; and the liabilities of insurance institutions reached 39.79 trillion yuan, up 12.2% year-on-year.
