Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B.US) CEO Greg Abel stated on Wednesday that Berkshire sees opportunities to provide energy for AI hyperscale data centers if conditions are right. In an interview, Abel remarked, We believe this represents a significant opportunity for Berkshire. He pointed out that last year, about 8% of Berkshire Hathaway Energy's load in Iowa came from data centers. Abel stated, We are interested in serving these hyperscale customersprovided that it does not affect the electricity prices for our other customers. In fact, the strategy we pursue is basically that it must generate net benefits for our other customers. Secondly, he indicated that the community must understand the impact on water resources, which has become more controllable through the adoption of new technologies. Third, the community must be open to hosting data centers in its location. We firmly believe that you must be a welcome member of the community. Abel noted that while resistance from communities across the U.S. has increased, to date, we have not had any specific sites rejected. He emphasized, Our sites will be energy infrastructure, not the data centers themselves. Supporting the companys strong belief in AI is its investment in Alphabet Inc. Class C parent company Alphabet (GOOGL.US). Berkshire Hathaway recognizes that AI will have a significant impact on the U.S. We see Alphabet Inc. Class C as an important player, he said. This is also one of the reasons why Berkshire evaluated Alphabet seriously and now holds a substantial stake in the company. Berkshire Chairman Warren Buffett initiated this investment about 15 months ago when Berkshire first built a position in Alphabet stock. Subsequently, Alphabet reached out to Berkshire to inquire if it would be interested in purchasing a large stake in the company's upcoming stock offering. Abel negotiated with Buffett to reach a $10 billion investment agreement at a 6.5% discount.
