Hong Kong port sets a new loading and unloading record for a single ship, with the Mediterranean Shipping Company handling 8,335 operations on a super large container ship.
The Hong Kong Harbor Alliance recently completed 8,335 container loading and unloading operations for the ultra-large container ship "MSC FEBE" owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company, demonstrating extremely high operational efficiency.
The Hong Kong Transport and Logistics Bureau announced that the Hong Kong Marine Alliance recently completed 8,335 container loading and unloading operations for the Mediterranean Shipping Company's ultra-large container ship MSC FEBE. This ship is nearly 400 meters long and has a cargo capacity of over 23,000 TEUs. Compared to the average handling of about 3,000 to 4,000 operations for other ultra-large vessels each port call, this amount represents an increase of more than 100%, setting a new record for the highest loading and unloading volume for a single vessel in Hong Kong.
The authorities pointed out that after arriving at the port, the ship immediately docked at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminal and operated at full speed for over 80 hours to complete the entire operation. During peak operation periods, each quay crane averaged over 34 loading and unloading operations per hour, demonstrating exceptional operational efficiency. The successful completion of this large volume of container operations fully showcases the efficiency and robust capabilities of the Hong Kong port in handling terminal scheduling, logistics coordination, and meeting the demands of massive throughput.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Miss Lam Sai-hung, highly praised the high operational efficiency of the port operators. She stated that, faced with unloading demands more than twice the daily average, the Kwai Tsing Container Terminal achieved the new target through flexible scheduling, fully demonstrating Hong Kong's advantages as an efficient and reliable international shipping hub in connecting global shipping trade.
The Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to work closely with the industry to consolidate and enhance the unique advantages of the Hong Kong port, providing stable and efficient services for the global supply chain.
