The CEO of cybersecurity company Palo Alto stated that AI is forcing major enterprises to completely overhaul outdated cybersecurity infrastructures worth approximately $1 trillion that were built for the pre-AI era.
Nikkiish Arora, CEO of cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks (PANW.US), stated on Tuesday that artificial intelligence is forcing major companies to completely overhaul their outdated cybersecurity infrastructure, valued at approximately $1 trillion, which was built for the pre-AI era. Arora remarked during the program, Any infrastructure deployed seven or ten years ago cannot cope with, nor is it prepared to handle AI at machine speed. You must reevaluate your network architecture. Palo Alto's financial report released on Tuesday indicated that this sense of urgency is translating into business results. The companys performance for the fourth fiscal quarter exceeded expectations and it provided a strong outlook for its new fiscal year. Arora anticipates that as AI enables attackers to discover and exploit vulnerabilities faster than ever before, it will compel major companies to upgrade their security measures that were not designed for automated threats, thereby expanding this market opportunity. If you dont do cybersecurity well, you cant successfully deploy AI, he said. There is about $1 trillion in cybersecurity debt globally that needs modernization to withstand automated threats, as these threats occur in an instant, Arora stated during Palo Alto's earnings call. This opportunity marks a dramatic reversal in investors perceptions earlier this year regarding the impact of AI on cybersecurity. Previously, concerns over increasingly powerful AI models potentially disrupting traditional security software had pressured Palo Alto and other cybersecurity stocks. Ultimately, as investors recognized that attackers could weaponize the technology as well, the market began to view AI as a growth engine. Nine months ago we were convicted and sentenced to near death, as people thought AI would take away our lunch, breakfast, and dinner, Arora stated. It turns out thats not the case. It seems we will have to feast with them. Arora pointed out that the emergence of Anthropics Mythos model earlier this year was a turning point. Mythos prompted major companies to pay more attention to cybersecurity, as the model could be easily used to exploit software vulnerabilities. Since April 7, Palo Alto's stock price has skyrocketed by 113%. Before that point, the stock was in a loss position through 2026. For eight years, Ive been trying to tell customers they werent ready, and simply with the release of Mythos, Anthropic has achieved that, Arora said. Arora mentioned that Palo Alto has engaged with around 2,000 companies regarding its Frontier AI Critical Defense Program, which employs advanced AI models to test clients' defenses, identify vulnerabilities, and help them modernize their security infrastructure. The company officially launched this initiative in August. Although Arora warned that such spending will not happen overnight, he stated that AI fundamentally expands the scale and duration of market opportunities within the cybersecurity industry. Not everything will happen in the next quarter, Arora remarked, but I can say this changes the long-term growth rate and duration of cybersecurity, not just for Palo Alto, but for the entire industry.
