On August 31, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the results of the residential mortgage statistical survey for July 2026. The number of new loan applications in July decreased by 24% compared to June, totaling 9,212 cases.
The amount of new mortgage loans approved in July decreased by 11.4% from June, amounting to HKD 44.8 billion. Among these, loans related to first-hand market transactions fell by 14.1% to HKD 13.3 billion, while loans for second-hand market transactions declined by 16.4% to HKD 24.2 billion. In contrast, loans related to refinancing transactions increased by 18.4% to HKD 7.3 billion.
The amount of newly drawn mortgage loans in July increased by 6% compared to June, reaching HKD 29.4 billion.
The share of new mortgage loans priced based on the Hong Kong Interbank Offered Rate (HIBOR) dropped from 70% in June to 61% in July. The proportion of new mortgage loans priced at the Best Lending Rate remained stable at 1.3%.
The total amount of outstanding mortgage loans increased by 0.4% month-on-month, reaching HKD 1,963.5 billion.
The mortgage delinquency ratio stands at 0.11%, remaining at a low level, while the ratio of restructured loans is close to 0%.
