Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) is ramping up its efforts in the government AI sector! Major models like OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic have all landed in GovCloud.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of Amazon, recently announced that it has expanded the availability of AI models within the AWS GovCloud (US) region, providing government agencies with the capability to access third-party large models through the Amazon Bedrock platform, including mainstream models from Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, and NVIDIA, while also supporting Amazon's own Nova series models. All services operate in a compliant, isolated cloud environment. AWS stated in a press release, We are pleased to announce that AWS GovCloud (US) now offers multiple series of AI models through Amazon Bedrock, providing government customers, along with their supporting industry infrastructure and technology partners, with the range of artificial intelligence model options needed to meet their mission requirements. From a financial performance perspective, AWS is experiencing a strong growth cycle. In the second quarter of 2026, AWS achieved revenue of $42.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 36.7%, marking the fastest growth rate in 18 quarters since 2021; operating profit was approximately $16.6 billion, a significant increase of 63%, with an operating margin of 39.4%. AWS currently accounts for about 21% of Amazon's total revenue but contributes over 60% of its operating profit. AWS's AI business and self-developed chip business have each surpassed an annualized revenue run rate of $25 billion, both recording triple-digit percentage growth. The model hosting platform Bedrock has hundreds of thousands of customers, with customer spending on Bedrock in the second quarter of 2026 exceeding the cumulative total of all previous quarters. Meanwhile, AWS's backlog reached a historic high of $496 billion in the second quarter. Company management expects that AWS's future revenue scale could reach $1 trillion, while currently, 85% of global IT spending is still deployed in on-premises data centers. Amazon has committed to investing up to $50 billion by 2026 to add approximately 1.3 gigawatts of AI and high-performance computing capacity across multiple secure cloud regions in the U.S. (including AWS GovCloud, AWS Secret, and AWS Top Secret). This August, AWS GovCloud (US) just celebrated its fifteenth anniversary. As the worlds first cloud region built specifically to meet the security and compliance needs of the U.S. government, AWS GovCloud has grown since its launch in 2011 to become a cornerstone supporting critical missions in U.S. national security, energy, public health, and financial services. From processing data from NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the Mars Curiosity rover to providing real-time orbital analysis calculations for the Artemis II lunar flyby mission, AWS GovCloud consistently handles demanding workloads.
