World premiere, Lei Jun approves! Changxin (688825.SH) officially announces mass production of LPDDR6 memory.

Changxin has taken the lead in mass-producing LPDDR6, marking the first time a Chinese memory company has broken the long-standing monopoly of overseas manufacturers on high-end memory standards, achieving a historic breakthrough with the global first mass production.
On August 29, CXMT Corporation (688825.SH) announced the mass production of its self-developed latest generation low-power memory LPDDR6, which will first be featured in the Xiaomi 18 Fold folding flagship smartphone. "Congratulations to Changxin on the mass production of LPDDR6 memory; it's an incredible achievement!" Lei Jun said on Weibo, adding, "This is just the beginning. In the future, there will be more outstanding Chinese tech companies collaborating and climbing to new heights!" In terms of timing, this official announcement comes less than a month after the R&D validation of its LPDDR6 product reached its conclusion. On August 1, sources close to Changxin revealed that significant progress had been made in the R&D of LPDDR6, with validation nearing completion and mass production now much closer. Changxin's achievement of being the first to mass-produce LPDDR6 signifies a historic breakthrough, allowing a Chinese memory company to break the long-standing monopoly of overseas manufacturers on high-end memory standards. According to Changxin's semi-annual report and previous supply chain information, the LPDDR6 has a peak speed of 12800 Mbps, with a basic rate of 10667 Mbps when coordinated with SoC, and a maximum chip capacity of 16 GB. From the international market perspective, the initial product specifications for LPDDR6 announced by Samsung and SK Hynix also fall within the range of 10677 Mbps to 12800 Mbps. Furthermore, based on publicly available data, Changxin's LPDDR6 development has maintained extremely high efficiency. In July 2025, the international standard organization JEDEC first released the LPDDR6 standard. This past March, there were already reports within the industry indicating that Changxin's LPDDR6 product had been sent for testing. The official announcement, mass production, and commercialization have all occurred within just one year. The mass production of Changxin's LPDDR6 also corresponds nicely with the earlier announcements about the Xiaomi Xuanjie O3. During the communication session for the Xuanjie O3, Xiaomi's head of chip business, Zhu Dan, specifically emphasized the introduction of LPDDR6; however, at that time, Xiaomi had not disclosed its collaboration with Changxin. The partnership between Xiaomi and Changxin extends beyond just a customer-supplier relationship. Lei Jun's Xiaomi has completed investments, achieving a dual linkage of supply chain and equity, which was crucial for Xiaomi 18 Fold to secure the first launch of LPDDR6 memory. It is worth noting that not only domestic manufacturers led by Xiaomi are accelerating their collaboration with Changxin, but Apple is also expected to reach a cooperation agreement with Changxin regarding storage supply. Foreign media citing industry sources report that Apple and Changxin are advancing sample verification and cooperation negotiations. According to the leaked cooperation framework, Changxin memory is only planned to supply the domestic entry-level versions of the iPhone and iPad, with high-end Pro models and overseas versions excluded for now. Additionally, due to regulatory restrictions, Apple cannot engage in deep customization of chips and can only purchase standard off-the-shelf products. As a product focused on low power consumption, LPDDR's scale in the entire DRAM market is comparable to server memory, far exceeding traditional PC and graphics memory. Previously, LPDDR standards were primarily applied in mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches, etc. HBM, constrained by cost, size, and power consumption, is mainly used for AI training and is difficult to implement in edge AI applications. DDR consumes more power and is unsuitable for high thermal dissipation scenarios. With the explosion of edge AI applications focusing on AI inference, LPDDR, with its advantages of high speed and low power consumption, has become the best choice for edge AI. From this perspective, Changxin's pioneering mass production of LPDDR6 lays a foundation for future performance growth. According to Changxin's just-disclosed semi-annual report, the company's revenue for the first half of 2026 reached 150.31 billion yuan, with a net profit attributable to the parent company of 77.605 billion yuan, achieving significant losses recovery, with second-quarter profits nearly doubling from the previous quarter; benefiting from the global DRAM supply-demand imbalance and simultaneous rise in quantity and price, the gross margin rose to 84.84%.
