In July 2026, the electronic payment transaction volumes (hereinafter referred to as transaction volumes) in the food service and retail industries increased by 3.1% and 6.3% year-on-year, respectively. In the first seven months, the transaction volumes in the two industries rose by 1.9% and 14.3% year-on-year, respectively.
According to the data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the electronic payment transaction volume (hereinafter referred to as transaction volume) in the food and beverage industry and retail industry in July 2026 increased by 3.1% and 6.3% year-on-year, respectively. In the first seven months, the transaction volume in both industries increased by 1.9% and 14.3% year-on-year, respectively.
Food and Beverage Industry
In July 2026, the transaction volume in the food and beverage industry rose by 3.1% year-on-year to 1.16 billion patacas (MOP, the same below). Among them, transaction volumes in Japanese and Korean restaurants, as well as tea restaurants and congee noodle shops increased by 5.8% and 4.2%, respectively, while the transaction volume of Chinese restaurants and hotels decreased by 3.1%. In the first seven months, the transaction volume in the food and beverage industry rose by 1.9% year-on-year to 8.08 billion patacas.
Retail Industry
In July 2026, the transaction volume in the retail industry increased by 6.3% year-on-year to 4.26 billion patacas, with notable increases in the transaction volumes of cosmetics and hygiene products (+33.8%) and watches and jewelry (+33.3%), while the transaction volume of department stores decreased by 14.7%. In the first seven months, the retail industry's transaction volume rose by 14.3% year-on-year to 33.71 billion patacas.
