From Performance Explosion to Value Release: Interpreting CHINFMINING (01258) Mid-term High Growth Strategy for 2026
Leveraging a complete industry chain layout for copper and cobalt mining, selection, and smelting, as well as reserves of high-quality overseas resources, China Nonferrous Mining Corporation has accurately seized the industry opportunity of rising prices for bulk commodities such as copper and sulfuric acid in the first half of 2026, achieving substantial growth across multiple core indicators including revenue, net profit, gross margin, and cash flow.
On the evening of August 21, state-owned giant non-ferrous mining enterprise CHINFMINING (01258) released its mid-term performance report for 2026. The report indicates that the company, relying on a complete copper-cobalt mining, selection, and smelting industrial chain layout and a reserve of high-quality overseas resources, has accurately seized the industry opportunities in the first half of 2026 with high commodity prices for copper, sulfuric acid, and other bulk goods, achieving substantial growth in various core indicators such as revenue, net profit, gross profit margin, and cash flow, hitting a new high for this phase in operational performance and demonstrating strong operational resilience and growth potential amidst industry cycle fluctuations.
Core performance surges significantly, leading the industry in profit growth
In the first half of 2026, the global copper industry maintained a high level of prosperity. Industry data shows that the average domestic spot copper price rose by 25.69% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, with London copper trading in a high range of $11,700 to $14,530 per ton. The high fluctuation of copper prices provided ample profit space for mining and metallurgical companies. Meanwhile, the global supply of copper concentrate remained tight, and the industry's supply-demand pattern continued to improve, providing solid fundamental support for the growth of corporate performance.
Benefiting from industry dividends, CHINFMINING saw a remarkable leap in operating data. During the reporting period, the company achieved a revenue of $2.261 billion, up 29.1% year-on-year; it achieved a net profit of $623 million, significantly increasing by 67.7% year-on-year; the profit attributable to shareholders reached $434 million, up 64.7%, with profit growth far exceeding revenue growth, resulting in a qualitative leap in profit quality. Earnings per share also significantly increased, with basic earnings per share reaching HK$0.87 in the first half, a year-on-year increase of 64.6%, continuously enhancing its investment value.
The substantial enhancement of profitability primarily stems from the significant improvement in the company's product gross profit margins. During the reporting period, the overall gross profit margin increased from 32.6% in the first half of 2025 to 42.4%, a rise of nearly 10 percentage points. The gross profit margin for sulfuric acid products reached 81.6%, an 18.8 percentage point increase year-on-year; the gross profit margin for cathode copper was 58.6%, a 12.8 percentage point increase year-on-year, opening up comprehensive profit space for core products and becoming the main driver of the company's performance growth.
Solid and high-quality financial status, outstanding cash flow generation capability
In addition to impressive profit data, CHINFMINING's financial structure continues to optimize, with asset quality and average cash flow hitting stage highs and further enhancing operational stability. As of the end of June 2026, the company's total assets reached $5.754 billion, a 19.8% increase compared to the end of 2025, indicating steady expansion in asset scale. The company's cash reserves are extremely ample, with cash and cash equivalents at the end of the period amounting to $2.017 billion, an increase of $540 million from the end of last year. The abundant cash flow provides solid financial support for project investments, technological upgrades, and dividend returns to shareholders.
Operating cash generation capability nearly doubled, with net cash generated from operating activities reaching $1.043 billion in the first half of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 98.3% compared to $526 million in the first half of 2025, demonstrating a significant enhancement in cash-generating capabilities and verifying the authenticity and sustainability of profits. At the same time, CHINFMINING has continued to optimize inventory management, with ending inventory at $661.6 million, a decrease of $75.5 million compared to the end of last year, improving inventory turnover efficiency, reducing capital occupation, and continuously optimizing operational efficiency.
Collaborating across the entire industrial chain, continuously optimizing product structure
As a comprehensive leading enterprise focused on copper and cobalt resource development, smelting, and sales, CHINFMINING has two core business segments: hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy. Its main business covers the entire industrial chain, including mining, mineral processing, and smelting, providing significant advantages in industrial chain completeness and resource self-sufficiency, effectively resisting risks from industry cycle fluctuations.
In the first half of 2026, both core segments of CHINFMINING achieved increased revenue and efficiency. The pyrometallurgy segment generated external sales revenue of $1.394 billion, accounting for 61.7% of total revenue; the hydrometallurgy segment generated revenue of $867 million, accounting for 38.3% of total revenue. The two segments are complementary and synergistic, solidifying the company's operational foundation. On the product side, the core products of the company, cathode copper and sulfuric acid, experienced significant growth in sales revenue, with cathode copper revenue increasing by 39.2% year-on-year and sulfuric acid revenue rising by 48.1%. Additionally, new high-value-added products such as cobalt hydroxide and bismuth oxychloride were added to the sales portfolio, enriching the product matrix and optimizing the profit structure.
In terms of market layout, CHINFMINING's product sales have now covered multiple countries and regions around the world. In addition to core markets such as Singapore, Africa, and Hong Kong, CHINFMINING has diversified its overseas market layout, effectively dispersing market risks from a single region and ensuring stable product sales, which provides market support for sustained performance growth.
Accelerating project construction with abundant long-term investment value
Focusing on long-term development, CHINFMINING continues to increase capital investment in key projects such as mineral expansion, technological upgrades, and environmental upgrades, continuously releasing capacity potential and solidifying the foundation for long-term growth. In the first half of 2026, the companys total capital expenditure reached $123 million, primarily directed towards mining development, smelting equipment upgrades, and environmental improvements.
On the key project front, core capacity expansion projects such as the shallow and deep projects at the Luansha New Mine and the second phase of the Southeastern Ore Body expansion project at the China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group are steadily advancing, continuously releasing incremental capacity. Additionally, the company is advancing environmental governance for smelting flue gas and optimizing the copper acid system as part of technological transformation projects, continuously improving production processes, reducing production costs, and enhancing industry competitiveness. Subsequent projects such as the Kambove MSESA ore body development and the Kambule Wet-process Samba copper mining and selection project are progressing in an orderly fashion, with expected production starting in 2028-2029, providing ample momentum for the company's performance growth in the next 2-3 years.
With solid operational performance and ample cash flow, CHINFMINING is also continuing to practice its value return philosophy, distributing its first mid-term dividend in the first half of 2026, with a per-share distribution of 1.1113 US cents, fully reflecting the company's strong profit position and commitment to rewarding investors. A stable dividend policy, continuously growing performance, and ample growth space position the company as having outstanding long-term investment value within the non-ferrous sector.
According to data from Huatai Futures, there is a clear trend of contraction in global copper mine supply in the second half of 2026, while the demand for copper in emerging industries like photovoltaics, energy storage, and new energy vehicles continues to grow rapidly. The copper market is expected to maintain a tight balance between supply and demand, and copper prices are likely to remain in a high fluctuation pattern.
As a leading provider of high-quality overseas copper resources, CHINFMINING will continue to seize industry cycle dividends, leveraging its advantages in the entire industrial chain, continuously iterating its capacity layout, and maintaining a sound financial condition to achieve sustained and stable growth in operational performance, continually releasing corporate value.
